Grey's Anatomy Season 13 "In the Air Tonight" Review
In the Air Tonight aired on yesterday, April 12, and I did just watch it because I wasn't able to catch it in real time. This episode was amazing, and I liked the way that is just focused on two characters. A bit of background on this episode:
The episode opens with a plane that seems extremely crowded and with passengers that don't at all seem to be very happy. Meredith is then shown reprimanding a passenger for shaming a mother who couldn't get her child to stop crying. Meredith then switches seats with the child's father, who ended up in the back of the plane due to late booking so that he could be near his wife and child. The seat Meredith switches into happens to be in the same row as Nathan Riggs. Long story short, later, Meredith goes to use the restroom and ends up in there with Nathan. We all know what that led to. The plane then encounters severe turbulence and there a many injuries. It is also revealed that both Meredith and Nathan had been in a plane crash. Meredith's, we are all aware of, but we didn't know that Nathan had been in one. Given the extent of Meredith's experience on planes, Nathan's didn't sound nearly as devastating or deadly, given it was when he and his stupid friend took a father's plane and then crashed it.
Meredith and Nathan end up having to execute a brain bleed evacuation with a syringe, napkins, a straw, nail clippers and a plastic cup. Meredith is left to fly solo with the evacuation when Nathan is called over to the annoying guy with pulmonary hypertension who had been shaming the mother and her child. He ends up in cardiac arrest, Nathan doing CPR. When the plane lands, the injured are taken off. Meredith and Nathan regroup on the tarmac, and it is revealed why Meredith is so scared to be with Nathan. Bluntly, Nathan tells her that at some point, she has to let go of Derek, and for her to stop pretending that she is trying to protect Maggie by not being with him. They end up leaving together, heading for the same hotel.
I loved this episode, it was absolutely amazing. The plane thing opened up old wounds about the loss of Lexie and Mark in the earlier plane crash, but it was nice to see Meredith talking about Lexie for once, she hasn't been mentioned in awhile. Like I said before, I also liked the focus on just two characters, because I just wanted to see Meredith and Nathan work it out and get back together, even if they were never a thing.
I'm currently having difficulty finding the promo for the next episode, but I do know that it's called Don't Stop Me Now, and it's supposed to air on April 27. I'll see you then.
