Introduction and Law and Order SVU Review of S17E7
Hello. Welcome to Living Life As Me. My name is Ailin Liebler-Bendix, and here on this blog, you'll get song covers, TV show reviews, tech reviews, book reviews, current event rants, music reviews ect. Excited now? Probably not. But you will be soon. Enjoy the blogging! I'll make my first post a TV show review. I've watched Law and Order: Special Victims Unit for about three years now. I started watching it when I was in China for a year, and my older sister loved crime TV. The show revolves around a squad of detectives working the NYC Special Victims Unit, and it shows the trials and tribulations of patrolling and solving crimes on NYC turf. The last episode that I watched fully was Patrimonial Burden, episode 6 of season 17. A quick overview of this episode: there's a reality TV show called The Bakers, one of the young daughters of the family starred becomes pregnant and she's thirteen. The family initially doesn't cooperate with the investigation, stating that they have a TV show to protect, along with ten kids. At first, Lane tells SVU that she was assaulted by their cameraman, Pete Mathews. When that falls through, they have another parade of suspects until Sergeant Mike Dodds(only his second episode) connects the dots all the way back to the family's pastor. This episode gets about a 3.5 our of 5 stars from me, mainly because it was very predictable. Another child, Summer, who had a child when she was Lane's age as well, the baby's DNA matched the pastor's. This is Sergeant Dodd's second episode, and he still seems to be clashing a bit with the other detectives. But while his father may be the deputy chief, he doesn't seem to be as "power hungry" as his father. Benson was promoted to lieutenant, and that's how "mini Dodds" ended up at SVU. Rollins, on bed rest from pregnancy complications only showed up a few times in this episode, binge watching the entire existence of The Bakers, trying to be of help, and is, by realizing that Tate(who was supposed to be the mother's son) is actually the Summer's baby. Fin was the usual Fin, with his witty remarks and hating on anyone who gets in his way. Carisi wasn't really spotlighted in this episode, he was mainly just there as another detective, and while his role is usually very consistent, I found myself wondering where he was, or why he hadn't elaborated on the point he had just made. That part was confusing. The whole episode comes to a close when Dodds(as mentioned before) makes the connection, while saying that since the family is very sheltered, there aren't many people, and they head off to arrest the priest. Turns out, he's in the midst of marrying thirteen year old Lane, who was now fourteen, and therefore legally allowed to marry. The wedding coming to an abrupt close, with the priest being arrested and dragged off as we fade to black. Not the most impressing SVU episode that I've seen, but certainly very passable.
