Law and Order SVU "Terrorized" Review
The new season of Law and Order: SVU began with an amazing and powerful episode, Terrorized. This episode aired last week, on September 21, so I apologize for this being late. This episode was absolutely amazing, but also extremely intense.
A short background on this episode; patrol finds a boy playing in the sandbox alone(his aunt had been killed by a bicyclist a couple minutes before), and the officer is told to call SVU. When Benson arrives, she attempts to get the child, whose name is Ali, to come with her and Noah. The boy refuses, and pulls a gun out of his backpack, aiming it casually at the lieutenant. Benson grabs the gun and then comforts Noah who is behind her. Later on, at the hospital, Benson is told that the boy has no serious injuries and no signs of sexual abuse. Olivia insists that he had to have gotten the gun from somebody when Rollins asks if they should hand it over to another precinct. The detectives soon realize that Rahima, the woman who was killed by the cyclist, was with Ali. When they go to Rahima's apartment, they find a detailed note saying what to do with Ali, and then a request for Rahima to tell Ali that no matter what happens, she'll always love him. Carisi comments that she knew she might not be coming back. They soon find a photo of the woman, who is presumed to be Ali's mother, and get her name off of her employer, and her name is Ana Kapic. The detectives also get her address, and head over there, only to find that she doesn't live there. In between, we get another sweet scene between Benson and Tucker, and it's nice to see her finally with someone she loves. They ID Ana's boyfriend, Luka Terzik, and head over to his apartment. Inside his apartment, they find a room full of guns and bomb supplies. Benson tells her squad not to touch anything, and to call joint terrorism, ESU and the bomb squad. Later on, the squad finds out that Ana and Luka are planning a mass casualty event and that it might be in central park. When they get there, and an event is already in progress and it is seen that Luka is there with Ana and a gun. When an officer notices a gun on Luka, he demands that it be dropped. Luka shoots him, then begins shooting into the crowd. The shootout ends with Luka dead and Ana begging the police not to shoot her and to help her. Ana demands to talk to the person who found her son, and then on the stand, she discloses that she was raped and beaten two days before by her Luka and his brother Armin. Barba manages to work out a deal with Ana and Calhoun(her lawyer), and to make sure that Armin won't get custody of Ali. The episode closes with Tucker and Benson with Noah at the park.
This episode was an amazing start to SVU's season 18. It was tragic, heartbreaking, but also very powerful. It also exposed the tensions that now exist between Chief Dodds and Benson, because he blames her for his son's death in Heartfelt Passages(last season's season finale). He basically came right out and said that it was her fault. This episode also shed light on Tucker and Benson romance and how that's growing every day, and honestly, it's really good to see her having people behind her that she trusts.
Thanks for reading, and let me know what you thought of this episode. I most likely won't review this week's episode, because of the sheer amount of work I have to get done for school, so I hope you guys let me know what you thought of it, it's called Making a Rapist. I'll see you all next week for Imposter, which is supposed to air on October 5.
